Frequently Asked Questions

Have you been feeling like you have to self-censor your true views in order to survive your counseling graduate program, your therapy workplace, or your professional therapist gatherings? You are not alone — we are the community you have been looking for!

Join a free-thinking therapist community who will not only embrace your skepticism of the dominant narrative in therapy but also be able to respectfully disagree without cancelling you. We can actually talk to each other.

Amazing, right?

You are not alone — according to a recent study (pre-2020, so possibly not even DEI influenced!) found that one-third (ONE THIRD!) of therapists are Independent, Conservative or Otherly inclined. I know it doesn’t feel that way when you look around you at a staff meeting or are sitting in your classroom hearing the current flavor and narrative but 1/3 is truly an influential amount of therapists. We have great ideas, a great need to connect and frankly, we are the representation of the future therapy artform.

  • We are a community of therapists and therapists in training from all over the world who are no longer willing to feel isolated and alone — and who want to figure out how to practice the craft of therapy, deepen our skills and resist what we see as ideological capture intelligently and non-reactively.

  • You are in any part of the world, and practice as a counselor, therapist or therapist in training who does not agree with the dominant narrative and political view currently held in the field. You see that our field has seriously lost nuance, and you suspect that holding complexity and the gray area is the best way to help clients- not politically advocating for them, as the counseling grad schools will tell you and the counseling credentialing body enforces. You want to connect with others like you and find solace as well as remind each other we are not crazy for embracing reality.

  • Nope. We believe that respecting people and helping humans heal means being tethered to reality. Land acknowledgements, pronouns and oppressor/oppressed narratives are just too rigid and ideological for us. We believe in common sense views. We respect our clients by being nuanced vs political.

  • No. We are liberal, conservative, unaffiliated, independent, formerly liberal, libertarian, moderate and everything in-between. What we align with is the idea that we can disagree, we can reflect, we can ponder and we sometimes we don’t even have to have an opinion. Like most things, it is all nuanced.

  • We have a bustling online forum to connect in conversation with smart, respectful and kind therapist colleagues who want to collaborate in order to survive cancellation and maybe even to inspire new ways of handling the ideological capture in our field. The main purpose of NTN is to remind you that you are absolutely not alone, that there are many of us speaking up, supporting each other and finding ways to navigate the current clinical landscape. We also have fun, inspire each other and offer our clinical insights and skills. Our network is private, members are vetted, and none of our conversations will be recorded or watched by an ideologically oriented billionaire.

  • OTI and CTA are fantastic organizations who offer meetings, and workshops. Our founder is deeply involved with CTA, in fact. However, NTN is a place where, unlike OTI and CTA, you can talk to your colleagues and your community whenever you want- immediately! You want to collaborate with a colleague on a wild idea? No problem! Message them at 2 am. Want to create a knitting group with your colleagues? You can do it. Want to design a research study on political bias and need to attract participant therapists? Go ahead! Want some insights and conversation on something you read in a charged therapist Facebook group? You will have access to the community we all sense is out there- and now we can instantly find each other.

Once we find each other, we will magnetize more towards a Nuanced view.

  • Hopefully soon! We will be offering add-on workshops and training by experts in our field on such topics as IFS, EMDR, Jungian, Gestalt-ing dreams, Grief, Psychedelic Assisted Therapy, Spirituality in Clinical Practice and much, much more. Our training will differ from your usual experiences in that you can be assured no DEI or ideological capture will ever enter them. Only impassioned and nuanced perspectives.

  • Actually, yes! There is so much to consider when you set up a clinical practice in this field- not only with the business aspects of practice, but also with finding and messaging to the right clients who want a nuanced therapist and not a political advocate. We offer practice set-up guides, marketing guides and more for an additional workshop fee.

  • We vet each application, and do a thorough check of each applicant to determine that you are who you say you are.
